Rosalyn's Story
Immediately after graduating, my family and I moved to Edgewater, Maryland. My family moved in 1967, but I stayed behind to finish my BS in Education from the University of Maryland, College Park. I didn't graduate until January 1969, so I didn't get a graduation ceremony, just my diploma in the mail. After graduation, I moved to southern Arizona, where my family lived (Sierra Vista, home of Ft Huachuca). I did substitute teaching in nearby Tombstone until June, when I moved back to Maryland. I lived in Silver Spring, Maryland, until 1992 when Mama passed away. My sister, Margaret, moved in with me and we began our odyssey ... first Tampa, Fl, for apprx 6 months (we did not like it!), then Nashville, Tn, for 3 years (worked Police dispatch, loved it!), then northern Texas (Arlington) for 1 year (we didn't like it there, either!), and then to Reno, Nevada ... I loved it there. I went to work for BCBS and would still be there, but .... isn't there always a but?! BCBS Colorado/Nevada was bought out by Anthem BCBS (IN/OH/KY) and my job was moved to Indianapolis, where I still am and still working for Anthem BCBS. Mama passed away in 1992 and Daddy passed away in 1981. My older brother, Alan, passed away several years ago, but we (my sister and I) were not notifed until 3 years after the fact, so we don't know exactly when. Surprise, Surprise ... I've never been married; been proposed to, just not by the "right" man. I had no interest in being some man's employee. I'm more outspoken now, but still a horrible romantic and still very shy around strangers. Beyond this, my life is probably pretty much like yours ... family, friends, work, bills. I am 9 semester hrs short of a second bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, but ran out of money! Hopefully, I'll finish it before I pass.
I always wanted to be a teacher when I grew up. My family and frien...Expand for more
ds thought that was a good idea. As it turns out, they were wrong.
I like to read ... especially murder mysteries with hero/heroine with attitude ... Robert B Parker's Spencer, Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum, you get the idea.
The one person from my past who I'd most like to see again is Jane Lounsbury, because she was my 1st close friend.
Hate "reality TV" ... it's anything but reality! Like unashamed fiction ... Bones, for instance!
If I won $100 million, I'd give $1million of it to Best Friends Animal Rescue, then spend the rest on travel, finishing BA and retirement.
lived in a dorm and loved it. I walked to class every day, walked to College Park restaurants, caught the bus into DC, made life-long friends.
My current age is 65. When I was 12, I thought that people my age now would be old. I was so completely surprised.
At this stage of the game, to make it to retirement at 72 and then find a parttime job i truly enjoy.
My best friend would tell you I'm paranoid, but people who don't know me very well would probably describe me as confident.
No style. Like the tailored, non-fad look so it never changes.
I share my home with my sister, which I find diffucult.
One do-over - I'd stay and finish my 2nd bachelor's in Criminal Justice. I'd have a better job now.
In 10 years, I hope to be retired. I'm going to get there by not getting fired!.
Karen Brenza Somers - lived across the hall from me in the dorm. Not sure why we clicked ... we shared a common home city (Annapolis, MD), but she's beautiful to my plain, she's brilliant (one of "those" people who got As without trying) to my smart. We share some common interests and enjoy people.
My first job was at a family-owned grocery store, where I got paid minimum wage to stock/clean shelves. What I remember most about it is I enjoyed it..
Seeing Santa Claus in our living room at Ft Campbell, KY.
